July 25th, 2010 - 1 year Anniversary!

We had a memorable Anniversary weekend starting with a yummy dinner Friday night at Honey with Marty and Amanda. All courses were super flavorful and wine we picked was tasty, tasty!

We finished off dinner with a special cake (lemon poppy seed with cream chease frosting and lemon curd) hand picked by Amanda from Take the Cake to mimic our wedding day poppy seed cake and it was SOOOO good - better than our wedding cake fo'sho'!

On Saturday, Chris surprised me with a trip to Yellow Springs, only an hour and 15 minute drive from home. We started off with lunch at Clifton Mill and then proceeded to wander around town for a while before checking into our bed and breakfast. The original house was built around the 1820s and it was filled with character. I LOVE old houses and I had fun picturing what life was like back in the day. I'm convinced that in a past life, I lived in the 19th century so I felt right at home.

We had a wonderful dinner at The Winds in downtown Yellow Springs on Saturday night. We chose an appetizer of figs filled with goat cheese, wrapped in crispy bacon and it was delicious! I'm thinking I might experiment a bit with these flavors in a chicken dish....or I'll make Chris experiment with it since he's a better cook than I am. When I'm at a restaurant, I always like imagining about what the judges from Top Chef would say about each dish. I'm sure they would be pleased with The Winds!

Unfortunately, I'm not very good at keeping track of our exploits with photos, but I always have good intentions.....

Here are some of the few shots I DID get:

A building outside the Clifton Mill that only American Pickers and myself would appreciate.

I took a photo through the window of this building because I was imagining it being haunted!

As you can tell, I REALLY liked this building.

To finish off our Anniversary adventure I'll provide you with a few photos of Chris and myself enjoying our original wedding cake which we did, in fact, freeze and store all year long in order to indulge on our 1 year anniversary. I'm not really sure if people actually do this for real, but we did!

Apparently I have issues standing still for the camera when it's on a timer. I made Chris take around 8 photos and I thought he was going to kill me.

I never did get the shot I was looking for.

Either Chris looked evil or I looked evil....

...or I was blurry.

Oh well.

Just saying....

Ginger cat cookies, (who knew?) girl talk, watermelon, white wine spritzers, and BB King make for an enjoyable Summer afternoon!

Big Fan!.....Huge!

I finally had a chance to check out a new OTR restaurant with Jenny tonight which I have heard SO much about....The Senate! I LOVE it! It had me at hello (or should I say "goodbye") when upon paying our bill, we were handed a vintage-style postcard of a street view outside The Senate when it looked all "old-timey" back in the day. So very cool!

The menu items sounded very intriguing and I couldn't decide what to order. I wanted to sample almost every item on the menu and we pretty much did (french fries in truffle oil; gourmet hot dog with short rib, kimchi, pickled cucumber on brioche bun; pb&j with foie gras; sweet potato falafel; pretzel beignets and creme anglaise.

I am thoroughly convinced that I should have been a food critic. Maybe I was one in a past life....something to think about.

Hmmmmm....

All in all, I can't wait to go back.

Date night with the husband perhaps?

I am sure he would appreciate their EXCELLENT beer selection.

New Weekend Tradition

Just returned home from a week at the cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and I couldn't resist getting in some extra R&R before heading back to work tomorrow. I must make a weekend tradition of sipping coffee and reading out on the front porch while the Ohio humidity is still somewhat bearable in the morning hours.

My view right now

So cute! I wish I could have hair like this.

I'm Back!

Love it!
