Lace, Lace, Wedding Lace

Minus the bows, why didn't I do this for my wedding cake?!?

Don't get me wrong, I did LOVE my cake topper (see below) and stump cake stand, so maybe this wouldn't have worked anyway (too much?), but I'm crazy about the lace detail.

July 25th, 2010 - 1 year Anniversary!

We had a memorable Anniversary weekend starting with a yummy dinner Friday night at Honey with Marty and Amanda. All courses were super flavorful and wine we picked was tasty, tasty!

We finished off dinner with a special cake (lemon poppy seed with cream chease frosting and lemon curd) hand picked by Amanda from Take the Cake to mimic our wedding day poppy seed cake and it was SOOOO good - better than our wedding cake fo'sho'!

On Saturday, Chris surprised me with a trip to Yellow Springs, only an hour and 15 minute drive from home. We started off with lunch at Clifton Mill and then proceeded to wander around town for a while before checking into our bed and breakfast. The original house was built around the 1820s and it was filled with character. I LOVE old houses and I had fun picturing what life was like back in the day. I'm convinced that in a past life, I lived in the 19th century so I felt right at home.

We had a wonderful dinner at The Winds in downtown Yellow Springs on Saturday night. We chose an appetizer of figs filled with goat cheese, wrapped in crispy bacon and it was delicious! I'm thinking I might experiment a bit with these flavors in a chicken dish....or I'll make Chris experiment with it since he's a better cook than I am. When I'm at a restaurant, I always like imagining about what the judges from Top Chef would say about each dish. I'm sure they would be pleased with The Winds!

Unfortunately, I'm not very good at keeping track of our exploits with photos, but I always have good intentions.....

Here are some of the few shots I DID get:

A building outside the Clifton Mill that only American Pickers and myself would appreciate.

I took a photo through the window of this building because I was imagining it being haunted!

As you can tell, I REALLY liked this building.

To finish off our Anniversary adventure I'll provide you with a few photos of Chris and myself enjoying our original wedding cake which we did, in fact, freeze and store all year long in order to indulge on our 1 year anniversary. I'm not really sure if people actually do this for real, but we did!

Apparently I have issues standing still for the camera when it's on a timer. I made Chris take around 8 photos and I thought he was going to kill me.

I never did get the shot I was looking for.

Either Chris looked evil or I looked evil....

...or I was blurry.

Oh well.

Friends for Brunch

I had a brunch party on Saturday and made good use of my birch vase sleeves used in my wedding....

I also made good use of the my blue mason jars....also used in my wedding! Bouquets of Baby's Breath are a new favorite of mine!

Consensus?

Brunch Party was a Success!

Vintage Lace

When I was planning my wedding, I became OBSESSED with vintage lace. It made me think how neat it would be to use vintage lace in hair accessories, necklaces, bracelets etc...so I was super pumped to see these from a store called White Owl on etsy!

Bouquet Obsessed

I must confess, I have a mild obsession with my wedding bouquet. The minute I saw my very talented florist walk into the room and gently sit it on the table, my heart skipped a beat. I was in love! The beautiful arrangement of white dahlias combined with thistle and soft pink roses was exactly what I had envisioned and instantly I was smitten. Rustic and elegant!!

Sadly, this is what my beautiful wedding bouquet has become......

My attempt at beautifully drying my bouquet into a cherished keepsake ultimately failed when it was forgotten outside on our patio during a rainstorm and was discovered the next day as a soggy mess. I can't bring myself to throw it away so for right now it has taken residence on a stump in our entrance way as something I've titled "Still-life with Seashell". Hmmm.....ok for now I guess.

*Side-note - This stump also served as our cake stand!

Indy Wedding

Went to Natalie and JD's wedding last night in Indianapolis. We had a blast and I even got Chris out on the dance floor. He looked so handsome and one of my girlfriends told me he looked like a Wisconsin or Minnesota mountain man which I REALLY liked!

They had individual cakes for each table and announced that the couple sitting at the table that had been married the longest would have the pleasure of cutting the cake and serving the table. I think this is such a cute idea!

Marla and John did the honors since they have been married for 9 years!

Deja Vu

They had also been married the longest at Lila and Jon's wedding in 2006!
