Lessons Learned

What I learned on the internet today:

#1. You can actually paint fabric in lieu of reupholstering

via Young House Love

I'm still very skeptical about this one and I'm not sure I would ever be brave enough to try it unless it was something that I absolutely could live without because chances are, I would fail at this miserably.

I'm completely fascinated.

They posted the tutorial from Hyphen Interiors. It seems as if she had better luck with the project.

#2. The only way for me to EVER be turned off to cheese is to take a cheese making class

via Centsational Girl

I find it happens more often than not that not, if I know how certain food was prepared, I don't find joy in eating it. Sometimes this happens to me when I make dinner so I would rather have Chris make dinner so I can fully enjoy the meal....at least that is the excuse I give him as to why I don't prepare dinner every night.

The whole process of cheese making, especially blue cheese making, does not look very appetizing, although reading all of the steps and time involved does make me appreciate what I'm putting in my mouth....so.... ultimately I've concluded that I'll leave the cheese making to the professionals and I'll simply enjoy indulging in it....often!

Project Rapunzel Pillow

Yet another pillow project!

I was feeling inspired after discovering some Rapunzel fabric from Sew Fresh Fabric on Etsy and decided to give the 'ole pillow project another try, but this time as a baby gift!

I didn't order very much fabric, only 1/2 yard, so I found some cute giraffe spotted fabric at Jo-ann's to use for the back.

I was feeling a little ambitious so I decided to add a monogrammed pocket using Rapunzel fabric scraps and iron-on lettering.

Operation Rapunzel Pillow Complete!

Bring on the next pillow....

I also have 1/4 yard of this Sleeping Beauty fabric to play with!

Nursery details...but not my nursery

I finally took some better photos of Amanda and Marty's new baby nursery.

I love the personal touches she added to the room. From the painted branch mural to the various hand-crafted artwork pieces, the room is most definitely a labor of love. Amanda found fun, colorful fabrics and framed them in embroidery hoops and then used the leftover scraps to decorate a letter "E" which will be the first letter of their baby girl's name......there's no telling what it is though.....she and Marty have been mum on that topic for almost 9 months!

Also pictured is a framed piece of art that she could most definitely start mass producing and selling on etsy!

I wish I would have remembered to get a better picture of it, but Marty also recovered a vintage glider (notice it peeking out of the bottom right corner of the photo above?) that belonged to Amanda's Grandmother who used it to rock HER children to sleep! Such a great piece of nostalgia for their little girl one day!

LOVE it!

I've decided that I'm going to compose a couple blog posts on nurseries, since it's a popular topic right now amongst my friends and I have such creative friends' talents to expose to the masses (and the masses meaning the 8 people that actually read this blog, if that:)

Natalie - I'm coming for you next! You need to start mass producing that adorable mobile above Shay's bed. You're nursery is too cute not to blog!

....to be continued

Sewing Skills and Snow Day Projects!!

I love snow days because I always find myself wanting to tackle a project. I recently bought some fabric on a Sunday trip to Old Time Pottery and decided to make two pillow covers for some couch pillows I was never really in love with. After an easy google search, I came across this tutorial from Angela at Cottage Magpie.

The Result?

I used this fabric:

to turn this:

into this:

Nothing that some easy google searches, fun fabric, and some sewing skills can't fix!

On a related note, a snow day last year allowed me the time to craft these kitchen curtains out of an old Anthropologie bedskirt that had been hiding away in our spare room closet for years.

I love DIY projects with fun fabric!
